British Kebab Awards Announced

Britain's best kebab restaurants and take away shops announced at the fourth annual Kebab Awards Ceremony in London. The British Kebab Awards took place in Park Plaza Westminster Hotel with restaurants and suppliers across the UK attended over a thousand guests including MP's, councillors, representative of local communities, business people and kebab enthusiasts.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn also presented at the awards with his wife. Speaking at the event he said, "Vegetarian aficionado of kebab shops, I hope I'm still welcome."

Winners Presented for a total of 16 categories at the fourth annual British Kebab Awards.

One minute silent held in the opening of the ceremony to respect terror victims in Istanbul, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Brussel and Paris.

Speaking at the ceremony founder of British Kebab Awards Ibrahim Doğuş said, "I am making two promises tonight; one, to establish an all-party parliamentary group on the kebab industry and I hope the parliamentarians with us tonight will consider signing up. Two; to establish a kebab industry representative body, so we can have a strong, unified, collective voice for the industry, and I hope the players from the industry will get involved."

The first kebab shop opened in North London in 1966 and there are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling around 2,500 tonnes of lamb and chicken doner a week.

The British kebab industry contributes over £2.2 billion annually to the British economy, supporting around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry in the UK. There are also around 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.
