Archaeologists bring history of Soli Pompeiopolis to light under schorching heat

Gülhan Demirci/ Mersin, Sep 1 (DHA) - At ancient site of Soli Pompeiopolis located in Mersin province, archaeologist continue excavation works at schorching heat reaching 40-degree temperature.

A team of 100 people led by Professor Remzi Yağcı from 9 Eylül University has recently focused their works on the Roman street lined with columns, at a particular ground dating back from Byzantines to Neolithic era.

The archaeologists and students within the team have difficulty in working in the area, on the other hand, due to extreme heat appearing even higher through marbles and soil, while excavating the area under giant tents.

Three other column heads, mosaic bases, and pieces of statues have been unearthed within this year's works, told Yağcı.
