UNICEF and the Turkish Bar Association (TBB) have launched a project to strengthen the capacity of lawyers and bar associations in the field of child rights and to ensure equal access to justice for children. As part of the project, 'Child Rights Centers' will be established in Adana, Aydın, Batman, Erzurum and Trabzon. The project, which has received approximately 3.2 million euros in funding from the European Union, will provide training on child rights to around 2,000 lawyers across Turkey and strengthen the monitoring capacity of bar associations in the pilot cities. The project is expected to benefit around 100,000 children who will have access to improved legal aid services.
During the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş, amateur radio operators played a crucial role in communication by instantly relaying the hot information they received from the field to the crisis center. The Adana Branch President of the Turkey Radio Amateurs Association, Eyüp Ünsal, stated that they communicated with the crisis center and relayed the information they received from the field. Amateur radio operators, who stepped in where mobile phone communication was cut off during the 7.7 and 7.4 magnitude earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, provided communication by going to the field and instantly relaying information to the crisis centers. Ünsal also stated that amateur radio is a part of their lives and they work for the public benefit as a non-profit organization.
