9 people.
Volunteers have been stand guarding the orphanage for 100 days, in attempt to stop the controversial demolition plan and to register the deed under the foundation's name. Some three of those supporters were allegedly attacked around 00.00 on August 14 in front of the Kamp Armen building in Tuzla district.
According to the claim, Ensari Taşkaya and two others were approached by a group of 8-9 people while walking back to the building after sending some visitors off from the bus stop. The group asked where Kamp Armen was located. When Taşkaya and his friends asked the reason they were looking for the address, the group battered and clubbed the three volunteers. After the incident, offenders fled on a car, while the others watching on the camp succoured to the scene.
"We have been watching the camp over 100 days to claim the memories of Armenian orphans. The attack occurred on the 100th anniversary of Kamp Armen resistance. This is not a coincidence! Around 80 days ago, we have been told that Kamp Armen will be returned to us. We have said that this move was nothing more than election propaganda. The attack proved that we were right" said one of the volunteers Sarin Korkmaz.
Having been lightly wounded, the three Kamp Armen volunteers have referred to the Tuzla Police Station to file a complaint against the attackers, after brief treatment in the hospital.
