Pigs enjoy cornfield, while teasing villagers after hunting ban

Mustafa Suiçmez/ Çanakkale, Aug 25 (DHA) - In central Kalafat Village of Aegean province of Çanakkale, pigs that have settled in the cornfields looted the area, while teasing the villagers with their coolness after hunting ban.

In Kalafat Village in 35 km distance to the city center, 3,000,000 m2 of the 20,000,000 m2 farm land have been invaded by pigs, which caused trouble to the villagers earning their bread from corn, tomato, pepper, grain and melon.

While villagers have started to watch guard the cornfield 24 hours to prevent the damage, to prevent the loss, they said five years ago there were no pigs in the region.

Having slammed the recent hunting ban, 49-year-old Rıdvan Uçar said that he had a loss of 5,000 liras, around 50 percent, because of pigs, and called on officials to lift the ban.

Governor added that battues to be launched at end of harvest could prevent the damage, after necessary agreements.
