– A substitute teacher working in southeastern province of Mardin launched a social media project to help disadvantaged children, collecting "happiness parcels" filled with school equipment, toys and other aids.
Teacher Rengin Yavuz working in village schools in central Mardin organized a social media campaign with three other colleagues, Elif Arı, Şeha Keleş and Pınar Keleş, calling on people across Turkey to send aid for schools.
Using the hashtag "#mutlulukkolileri" [#happinessparcels], Yavuz and her colleagues achieved to help students in many provinces such as Van, İzmir, Kırıkkale, along with Mardin.
The campaign's slogan is "I would like to be hope to a student", said Rengin Yavuz.
The team needs more parcels
The team made an agreement with a courier company to distribute aid, free of charge, across faraway villages.
Most recently, Yavuz visited the Kilimli Village in Mardin, where she gave children their parcels, and played with students for a long while.
Yavuz was accompanied by students walking along with her even after she left the school on her way back.
She urged that the team have given all the parcels and needed more support, although the campaign made great impact.
"We are seeking the happiness of these children. We need people to stand up" she stressed.
