Leading global aerospace giant Boeing set a record in 2014 for commercial airplane deliveries and orders, according a statement released by the company on Wednesday.
Boeing delivered 723 commercial airplanes last year, breaking a company record for the second consecutive year. It also booked 1,432 orders worth 232.7 billion dollars at list prices, the company said in the statement.
"In the face of fierce competition, we had a strong year" said Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner in the statement. "I'm extremely proud of the entire Boeing team, and all of the hard work that went into delivering and selling a record number of commercial airplanes this past year."
For deliveries, closely watched by investors because they produce revenues, Boeing came in near the top of its estimate of between 715 and 725 jets. Boeing topped its forecast for the all-new, high-tech 787 Dreamliner, launched three years ago.
Boeing's 737, 777 and 787 Dreamliner models set records for deliveries in 2014, while its backlog of unfilled commercial orders stood at 5,789 at year-end, also a company high. - Istanbul
