Un Slams Israel For Lack Of Legal Action On Arson Attack

NEW - The UN's top Mideast envoy on Wednesday sharply criticized Israel for dragging its feet in finding Jewish extremists responsible for an attack that killed three members of a Palestinian family.

"The incident, which was widely condemned by leaders on all sides, regrettably, has still not been resolved," Nickolay Mladenov said in a statement referring to the attack in July. "I am concerned by the slow progress and call on the Israeli authorities to move swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this terrible crime to justice."

Jewish settlers set fire to a Palestinian home in the West Bank on July 31, killing an 18-month-old child. Days later, the boy's mother and father also succumbed to injuries sustained in the arson attack.

Mladenov said the only surviving member of the al-Dawabsha family, 4-year-old Ahmed, was still being treated for his wounds.

"Amidst the current escalation of violence, it is essential that all firmly and consistently reject terrorism and act decisively to stop hatred and incitement," he added.
