Taylan Yıldırım/ İzmir, Aug 13 (DHA) - Migrant of Syrian origin having flocked to Aegean province of İzmir, within a human crisis striking the international agenda, were announced to be sent to refugee camps in southeastern province of Mardin bordering Syria.
Syrian migrants have been struggling to survive while sheltering at parks, green-fields and on the sidewalks and waiting for a "journey of hope" towards Greek islands, in İzmir's Basmane district. The governorate has announced to take measures to prevent the flux to İzmir, including deploying security points at the city's entrance.
While police and gendarmerie teams keep preventing the entrance of Syrians to İzmir, police had launched inspection inside the city. Homeless Syrian migrants begging on the roadside, groups suspected to be planning to flee to Greek islands and groups who had been caught while attempting to cross into the European country were also spotted and captured one-by-one.
Within the cooperation of İzmir Provincial Directorate of Migration Management and Foreigners Branch Office, the exit operations of Syrians residing in Ataturk Stadium's ground floor were completed.
Some 120 of these migrants were sent off to refugee camps in Mardin at evening hours, on August 12. Handcuffs of the captured migrants were opened after they got on the buses. Locals reported police teams have taken severe measures during the operation.
