Happiness Level Fell For The Third Succesive Year İn Turkey

General happiness level in Turkey fell for the third successive year in 2014 to 56.3 percent, according to the Life Satisfaction Survey data, released by Turksat on Friday.

The percentage of individuals who mentioned that they were happy in Turkey hit the highest level in 2011 at 62.1 percent, which fell to 61.0 percent in 2012 and to 59.0 percent in 2013.

The happiness level fell to 56.3 percent in 2014, while 10.8 percent of individuals mentioned that they were unhappy in 2013, the percentage increased to 11.7 percent in 2014. The unhappiness level was at 9.9 percent in 2011 and at 10.2 percent in 2012.

While the level of happiness was at 61.9 percent for females in 2013, the percentage fell to 60.4 percent in 2014 and the level of happiness for males fell to 52 percent from 56.1 percent, over the same period.

When the level of happiness was analyzed by age groups, the highest level of happiness was at 65 and over age group with 62.8 percent, the lowest level of happiness was seen at 45-54 age group with 51.5 percent.

It was seen that married individuals were happier than singles. While 58.9 percent of married individuals were happy in 2014, the percentage was at 50.0 percent for singles.

The level of the individuals who mentioned that their families made them happy was at 73.3 percent, while the ones who mantioned their children stood at 13.4 percent, spouse at 5 percent, parents at 3.1 percent, themselves at 1.9 percent, grandchildren at 1.4 percent.

Total 68.8 percent of individuals said their health made them happiest, while 15.4 percent of them mentioned love, 8.5 percent mentioned success, 4.2 percent success and 2.2 percent working.

On tne education basis, the highest level of being happy was at higher education graduates with 60.2 percent, which was followed by 57.9 percent for individuals who did not complete any school. 55.8 percent for primary education or secondary school gradutes, 55.1 percent for secondary education and equivalent graduates and 54.8 percent for primary school, said that they were happy.

The percentage of individuals who were hopeful about their own future fell to 73.8 percent in 2014, from 77.0 percent in 2013. - Istanbul
