The State Department on Friday lauded the decision of a Turkish court to lift Turkey's ban on Twitter.
Twitter was banned in Turkey for two weeks after Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish Prime Minister, said that he would "wipe out" the micro blogging site. Turkey's Constitutional Court ordered that the ban be lifted on Wednesday, saying that it violates the right to freedom of expression.
"We welcome the recent constitutional court decision in support of freedom of expression in Turkey," said Marie Harf, the deputy spokesperson for the U.S. State Department.
The Turkish government implemented the court's decision on Thursday, Harf noted. She further called on the government to unblock access to YouTube. - Washington DC
