Turkey's İnternational İnvestment Position Gap Rose By 11.5 Pct.

Turkey's international investment position gap widened by 11.5 percent in January-November period of 2014, according to the data released by the Central Bank of Turkey on Monday. Turkey's international investment position gap widened by 11.5 percent in January-November period of 2014, according to the data released by the Central Bank of Turkey on Monday.

External assets rose by 3.9 percent to 234.9 billion dollars while liabilities against non-residents rose by 8.6 percent to 672.9 billion dollars, over the same period.

The net international investment position gap, defined as the difference between Turkey's external assets and liabilities rose by 11.5 percent to 438.1 billion dollars at the end of November.

As regards to sub-items under assets, reserve assets rose by 2.4 percent to 133.4 billion dollars, while other investment fell to 59.9 billion dollars indicating a decrease of 445 million dollars compared to the end of 2013.

Currency and deposits of banks, one of the sub-items of other investment, decreased by 6.3 percent to 21.8 billion dollars compared to the end of 2013.

Direct investment at the end of November 2014 recorded 172.9 billion dollars indicating 15.6 percent increase in comparison to the end of the previous year due to the changes in the market value and foreign exchange rates.

Portfolio investment increased by 29.1 billion dollars compared to the end of 2013. Non-residents' equity holdings recorded 65.4 billion dollars reflecting an increase of 25.0 percent compared to the end of 2013.

Non-residents' holdings government domestic debt securities, a sub-item under debt securities stock, recorded 54.1 billion dollars with an increase of 3.9 percent. Eurobond stock of the Treasury posted 38.5 billion dollars with an increase of 1.8 percent.

Total external loan stock of the banks recorded 94.7 billion dollars at the end of November 2014 increasing by 9.3 percent compared to the end of 2013, while total external loan stock of the other sectors decreased by 2.4 percent to 93.8 billion dollars over the same period. - Istanbul
